German Instagrammer Kevin J. Walter is an avid Custom LEGO Builder. Recently we came across one of his creations, namely that of a LEGO Star Trek Klingon Bird of Prey. He has recreated one of the most legendary movie spaceships ever in LEGO.
After some additional research, it appears that he has recreated more objects from the Star Trek domain, such as the even more legendary LEGO Star Trek Enterprise.
All brick builds meant hundreds of hours of work, but the results are definitely extroardinary. Especially considering the fact that Kevin has taken the trouble to Photoshop them in a realistic space setting. Beautiful work, which you can also see on his Flickr account.
Why not a LEGO Star Trek?
When you see all these beautiful sets, you would almost ask yourself: why hasn’t LEGO put this series into production yet? The first thought you might already get, is that it may have something to do with that other space series, LEGO Star Wars. On closer examination, that first brainchild actually turns out to be the right one.
In 1999 George Lucas made a deal with LEGO to develop LEGO Star Wars sets as part of the new Phantom Menace movie. However, it seems to have been part of the deal that LEGO may not contract any other licenses that include spaceships other than their own LEGO City Space series.
You would expect such a deal to run for several years, maybe 5 or 10 years. But it is rumored that the deal is a lifetime deal. In other words, there will never be any other space series released by LEGO other than LEGO Star Wars.
Still, as far as we are concerned, it would be a great pity if this persistent rumor turns out to be true. When you see these sets created by Kevin J. Walter, you may want to run straight to the store to buy them.
As long as that is not yet possible, we still have the photos. And of course you can also have fun with the many LEGO Star Wars sets.
